Position Summary
FSP is seeking a hands-on and strategic Controller or Director of Accounting to oversee day-to-day financial operations and support the company’s transformation and growth agenda. This leader will be accountable for managing accounting operations, financial reporting, audits, internal controls, and regulatory compliance, while supporting the VP Finance with planning, analysis, and strategic projects.
This role is pivotal in building the team and processes required to support FSP’s evolving organizational scale, particularly as the company integrates its activities through expanded partnerships with insurance carriers, credit unions and independent brokers.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage general ledger accounting, month-end and year-end close processes.
• Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP.
• Supervise AP/AR, General Ledgers, payroll, and reconciliations, ensuring controls and accuracy.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and board reporting packages.
• Lead audit preparation and act as the primary liaison with external auditors.
• Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Ensure compliance with multi-state regulatory and insurance-related financial requirements.
• Oversee tax preparation and filings in partnership with external advisors.
• Build and lead a high-performing accounting team to meet current and future business needs.
• Oversee Colonial Building LLC and FSP Foundation financial statements.
• Mentor and coach team members to enhance financial skills and alignment with growth.
• Drive automation and system upgrades to enhance accounting efficiency.
• Collaborate with IT and Finance to ensure proper integration of ERP, CRM, and financial tools.
• Collaborate with BI team and Finance to ensure proper reporting for commissions and sales incentives.
• Support VP Finance with budgeting, forecasting, and performance analytics.
• Participate in annual SOC2 audit and INFOSEC committee.
• Participate in due diligence and integration for M&A and joint venture activities.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required or strongly preferred.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, preferably in insurance, financial services, or multi-entity environments.
• Knowledge of insurance commissions, revenue-sharing, and broker financial structures is a plus.
• Proven experience with ERP systems and strong Excel and financial modeling skills.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and audit preparation.
